Synchronous condensers and their role in maintaining grid stability

A couple of weeks ago, we were delighted to host a webinar explaining the role of synchronous condensers in stabilising the grid.

The session was run by Steve Conry (COO at Conrad Energy), Phil Silk (Development Director at Conrad Energy) and Steve Clifford (Head of BD – Grid Stabilisation at Siemens Energy).

During the session we explained why grid stability is so important as the proportion of intermittent renewable generation solutions grows. Our expert panel then looked at the role of synchronous condensers and how they work, before highlighting some of the challenges we’ve faced in building two of the largest synchronous condenser projects in the UK at Eye and Walpole as part of NESO’s Pathfinder 3 tender.
